Ílhavo Martime Museum

The Ílhavo Maritime Museum is a place of memory for the people of Ílhavo and their role in opening Portugal to the world. Born in 1937, it has been housed in a modern and attractive building since October 2001. It houses three beautiful permanent exhibitions: The Captain Francisco Marques Room, dedicated to cod fishing by line; the Ria Room, a testimony to the agro-maritime activities of the Aveiro lagoon; and the Seas Room, where a rich collection of miniature antique boats, fishing instruments and other artifacts is on display. A collection of thousands of shells collected from all over the world completes the museum's exhibitions.

The Ílhavo Maritime Museum is closed on Sundays (between October and February) and on Mondays and the following holidays: January 1, Carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, May 1 and December 25. On all other public holidays, the Ílhavo Maritime Museum and the Santo André Ship-Museum are open on Sundays (14:00-18:00).
